What I do
This is how I can help your business
A website that brings in work
A fast, professional site that looks great on phones, tablets and computers, built from day one to get you found on Google and turn visitors into enquiries.
Plain-English advice
I know the techie stuff can be overwhelming. I won't bombard you with jargon. Everything stays simple and straightforward, from the first chat to launch day.
Simple ideas to grow
As a small business owner you wear a lot of hats. I'll give you clear, practical ideas to promote your website and your business, with no fluff.
I started designing websites in Exeter over 20 years ago, back in the days of the dot-com bubble, when domain names were super expensive and school kids were becoming internet millionaires overnight. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. 🙂
Since then I've worked in all sorts of technical roles, from 50p-a-minute helpdesks in the dial-up days (remember that sound?) to senior technical positions. The common thread has been taking complicated ideas and making them easy to understand.
These days I build a different kind of website: faster and simpler than WordPress, with nothing for you to maintain. GeekFace is deliberately small, so you always deal with me.

Websites I've designed & built
From fencing companies in Torquay to builders in Barnstaple, garden room specialists in Exeter to decking fitters across the South West, I've designed and built fast, hand-crafted websites for tradespeople and small businesses across Devon, plus a few projects further afield, including finance and crypto clients. Most are lightning-quick static builds that load in a blink and rank well on Google; a few are WordPress sites from before I changed tack. Every website below was designed, built and launched by me. Slide through the gallery and click a card to read the case study behind it.
John created a fantastic website which I am really happy with. Lots of my customers have commented on how professional the site is. It really has helped to make my business stand out from my competitors.

John has revolutionised the way my business runs. The website is only one part of it. There is a lot of automation behind the scenes which saves me hours of work. Couldn't be happier.

Straight answers to the questions Exeter businesses ask before getting a new website.
How much does a website cost for a small business in Exeter?
It depends on what you need it to do, but a simple, fast brochure site for a trade or small business is a fixed one-off price rather than an open-ended quote. You always know the cost before we start. No hourly billing surprises.
How long does it take to build a website?
Most small business sites are live within two to four weeks once I have your content. Bigger builds with lots of service and location pages take a little longer, but I'll give you a realistic timescale up front and stick to it.
Will my website show up on Google in Exeter?
That's the whole point. Every site is built to be found: a page for each service, a page for each area you cover, schema markup, fast loading and clean structure. Whether it's "fencing Torquay" or "plumber Exeter", the aim is to put you where your customers are searching.
Do I need to be based in Exeter to work with you?
No. I'm based in Exeter and love working with local Devon businesses face to face, but everything works just as well remotely. I've built sites for clients across the South West, London and beyond.
What's the difference between your sites and WordPress?
I build static sites: no database, no plugins, nothing to hack and nothing to update. They load almost instantly, even on a phone in a lay-by, and they're far cheaper to host. I built WordPress sites for years. This is simply the better tool for small businesses now.
Do I need to sort out hosting and a domain name?
I handle all of it. Hosting is fast and included on the care plan, and I'll help you register or move your domain so it stays in your name and under your control.
What if I need changes to the site later?
Just email me. Small tweaks are covered on the care plan, and bigger changes are quoted simply. There's no dashboard to learn and nothing you can accidentally break.
I already have a website. Can you improve it?
Absolutely. If your current site is slow, dated or invisible on Google, send me the link and I'll tell you honestly whether it's worth improving or rebuilding. Often a fresh static build costs less than patching an old site.
