Terms of use
The ground rules for using this website, and how a project with me works in practice. Plain English, as always.

Who I am
This website is run by GeekFace, a web design business run by John in Exeter, Devon. If you have any questions about these terms, send me a message through the contact form.
By using this website you’re agreeing to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
Using this website
You’re welcome to browse, read and share links to anything here. A few reasonable limits:
- Don’t do anything that could damage or disrupt the site, like trying to break into it or hammer it with automated requests.
- Don’t reuse my content wholesale. A short quote with a link back is fine; copying whole pages and passing them off as your own isn’t.
- Portfolio screenshots are shown with my clients’ permission to demonstrate my work. They belong to the businesses they depict.
I try to keep everything accurate and up to date, but the site is provided “as is”. Nothing here is professional advice specific to your situation, and a chat is always better than guessing.
Links to other sites
I link to client websites and other places I think are useful. I don’t control them and I’m not responsible for their content, availability or how they handle your data.
If we work together
These terms describe the general shape of a project. Every job also comes with a written quote, and if anything in a signed agreement disagrees with this page, the agreement wins.
Quotes and pricing. Prices shown on this site are guide prices for defined packages. Every project is quoted as a fixed price before work starts, so the number we agree is the number you pay. If the scope changes along the way, I’ll quote any extra work before doing it. No hourly billing surprises.
Payment. Standard terms are 50% to book the work and 50% before launch, unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing. Payment is due within 14 days of invoice.
What I need from you. Timelines assume you’ll send over the things I need (photos, text, answers to questions) reasonably promptly. If a project stalls because I’m waiting on you, the timeline moves with it. Fair’s fair: if it stalls because of me, that delay is on me.
Revisions. Each package includes a sensible round of revisions at each stage. “A sensible round” means feedback gathered together, not a slow drip of individual tweaks over weeks. Endless revisions aren’t part of a fixed price, but I won’t be difficult about it either.
What you provide. You’re responsible for making sure the content you give me (photos, logos, text) is yours to use, and that nothing you ask me to publish is untrue, unlawful or someone else’s copyright.
Ownership and copyright
When the final invoice is paid, the website’s code and the content you provided are yours. Until then, ownership stays with me. I keep the right to show the finished work in my portfolio and case studies, unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing.
If a project cancels partway through, you pay for the work done up to that point and I hand over what’s been produced.
The honest limits
I’ll build your site with reasonable care and skill, but a website can’t guarantee results on its own: I don’t promise search rankings, traffic or sales, and nobody honestly can.
My total liability for anything connected with a project is limited to the amount you’ve paid me for that work. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that can’t legally be limited.
Availability and changes
I aim to keep the site up and running, but I can’t promise it’ll always be available or error-free. If these terms change, the new version goes on this page with an updated date at the top. Terms current when a project starts apply to that project.
The legal bit
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales.
