Website design in Torquay that brings you more work

I'm John, a web designer based just up the road in Exeter. I build fast, simple websites for Torquay tradespeople and small businesses: fixed prices, no maintenance headaches, and set up to be found on Google by the customers you actually want.

About me

Hi, I'm John: the geek behind the face

I started designing websites in Exeter over 20 years ago, back in the days of the dot-com bubble, when domain names were super expensive and school kids were becoming internet millionaires overnight. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. 🙂

Since then I've worked in all sorts of technical roles, from 50p-a-minute helpdesks in the dial-up days (remember that sound?) to senior technical positions. The common thread has been taking complicated ideas and making them easy to understand.

These days I build a different kind of website: faster and simpler than WordPress, with nothing for you to maintain. GeekFace is deliberately small, so you always deal with me.

A builder's site built around a face

Neil had a great reputation around Torquay but a website that could have belonged to anyone. The rebuild puts him front and centre: his face on the homepage, his reviews doing the talking, and a "send it to Neil" form on every page instead of a buried contact form.

Underneath, there's a page for every service and every area he covers, so someone searching for a kitchen extension in Torquay lands on a page about exactly that. It's a static build, so it loads instantly and there's nothing to maintain or hack.

One page per service, one page per town

A fencing company doesn't need a complicated website, it needs to be found. Torquay Fencing covers the whole of Torbay, so the site has a dedicated page for each service and each town: fence installation in Paignton is a different page to fencing repairs in Brixham.

That structure means every local search lands somewhere relevant instead of a homepage trying to be everywhere at once. It's the playbook I'd use for any trade covering several towns, and it works without a penny spent on ads.

The site that started it all

Joe's garden and property services business was my first client build, and it's the proof of the whole idea: a simple, honest website with real photos and a clear way to get in touch beats a fancy one that nobody can find. His customers keep telling him how professional it looks, which is about the best review a website can get.

It was built on WordPress back then. If I built it today it would be a static site: faster, cheaper to run and with nothing to break, which is the honest reason I've changed how I build.

One site, every town in the bay

Landscaping, garden design, home extensions and building work, all funnelled into a single free-quote journey. Whatever a visitor is planning for their garden or their house, the next step is always obvious and the same.

It's the service-and-town playbook again: dedicated pages for each job type and each patch of Torbay, so "garden design Paignton" and "home extension Brixham" each land on a page written for exactly that search. There's a sister site covering Exeter and East Devon on the same formula.

What you get

What a Torquay website gets you

Found across Torbay

A page for every service you offer and every town you cover, from Torquay to Paignton, Brixham and beyond. Each local search lands on a page that actually matches it.

Fast on phones

Most local searches happen on a phone, often with seafront signal doing its best impression of 2003. Static pages load in a blink, so customers reach you before they reach a competitor.

A person, not a queue

You deal with me from the first chat to launch day and beyond. No account managers, no ticket systems, and I'm close enough to buy you a coffee in person.

Common questions

Website design in Torquay: the stuff people ask

Straight answers to the questions Torquay and Torbay businesses ask before getting a new website.

You're based in Exeter. Do you actually work with Torquay businesses?

All the time. I'm about half an hour up the road and already look after sites for Torquay clients, including NL Elite Builders, Torquay Fencing and JB Property Services. Most things happen over email or a call, but if you'd rather talk it through face to face I can meet you on site or over a coffee on the harbourside.

How much does a website cost for a Torquay business?

A fast brochure site starts at £950 as a fixed one-off price, and I'll always quote before we start so there are no surprises. Bigger builds, like a page for every service and every town you cover, are quoted simply too. No hourly billing, no mystery invoices.

Can you get me found in Paignton and Brixham as well?

Yes. That's exactly the playbook behind Torquay Fencing: a proper page for each town you cover, rather than one page trying to be everywhere at once. Someone searching "fencing Brixham" lands on a page about fencing in Brixham, not a generic homepage.

My current website is on WordPress and it's getting slow. Can you help?

Almost certainly. I build static sites: no database, no plugins and nothing to update, so they load almost instantly on phones and cost very little to run. Send me your link and I'll tell you honestly whether it's worth patching or rebuilding.

How long does it take to build a website?

Most small business sites are live within two to four weeks once I have your content and photos. I'll give you a realistic timescale before we start, and unlike scaffolding, it won't be there longer than promised.
